    Q. How long have you been involved with The Open Group?

I am new to The Open Group. As of summer 2024, the Defense Standardization Program Office (DSPO) has just joined the standards development organization.

    Q. What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?

I am an engineer for the DSPO, working systems engineering and systems engineering modernization efforts related to MOSA-enabling standards and digital standards in the Department of Defense. I have been working in the systems engineering arena for over the last 2.5 years.

    Q. Why did your organization become a Member of The Open Group…. Forum and what does/will your involvement look like?

DSPO manages the Defense Standardization Program, the single, unified standardization program in the DoD. As part of our outreach and presence, our office is actively involved and participates in standards development organizations. As DSPO has a growing interest in MOSA-enabling standards and development of standards in ‘non-traditional standards bodiesâ€, we see the value in keeping up with the latest and greatest trends in the standardization space. Because of this, we have joined the FACE consortium under The Open Group. Since we have just joined, we are getting our feet wet in understanding areas of interest and involvement.

    Q. How has/will membership in The Open Group benefit you, your organization, and the industry at large?

Membership in The Open Group will benefit me and my organization by providing access to a broader network of industry experts and resources to support standardization. It will allow us to contribute to and influence the development of industry standards to support DoD interests. DSPO brings a unique perspective not only from the DoD perspective, but as the leading agent for the Defense Standardization Program.

    Q. Why is it important for other organizations to join The Open Group?

It is important for other organizations to see the value and importance of developing standards to support technology maturation and sustainment. Being a member of a standards development organization like The Open Group allows organizations to impart best practices and industry trends to support the future success of standards.

    Q. What are your hobbies?

I enjoy hiking, spending time with family, and interior design.

    Q. What book are you currently reading?

I am currently reading “Never Split the Difference: Negotiating as if your life Depended on It by Chris Voss.
