The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Consortium Publishes the SOSA Acquisition and Contracting Guide Version 1.0

San Francisco, CA - October 10, 2024 â€ The Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architectureâ„ (SOSA) Consortium has today announced the availability of the

The comprehensive guide was developed to provide Government and Industry with a better understanding of how the SOSA Reference Architecture fulfills the U.S. DOD’s mandate for Modular Open System Approach (MOSA) based solutions. It is a valuable resource designed to provide guidance for language used in acquisition and contracting guides that call for systems designed to align with, and later conform with, the SOSA technical standard.  The recently released complements the , which provides readers with background information of the SOSA Consortium, including its objectives and organization.

“As threats to sensing and communications advance and accelerate, the U.S. Government needs to acquire sensor capabilities in a more agile and affordable way than traditional acquisition methods,â€ said Dr. Ilya Lipkin, SOSA Steering Committee Chair. “The new Sensor Open Systems Architecture Acquisition and Contracting Guide Version 1.0 delivers the guidance needed for Government and Industry to implement sensors and subsystems that align with the SOSA Reference Architecture and support the mandate for MOSA.â€

Use of the guide facilitates adoption and acquisition of the SOSA Technical Standard by providing users with the Acquisition Strategy and Contracting Language required to implement the SOSA Technical Standard which establishes guidelines for the design of Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR) systems. The SOSA Technical Standard, a Tri-Service initiative supported by Industry and Academia, enables flexibility in the selection and acquisition of sensors and subsystems that provide sensor data collection, processing, exploitation, communication, and related functions over the full life cycle of the C5ISR system.

About The Open Group SOSA Consortium

As sensor systems increase in number, applications, cost and complexity, users need to address issues such as affordability, versatility and capabilities. Sensor systems should be rapidly reconfigurable and reusable by a greater number of stakeholders. The SOSA Consortium enables government and industry to collaboratively develop open standards and best practices to enable, enhance and accelerate the deployment of affordable, capable, interoperable sensor systems. /sosa.
