The Open Group FACE® and SOSA Consortia to Host Annual Technical Interchange Meeting in Huntsville, Alabama

San Francisco, CA - August 29, 2024: The Open Group, the vendor-neutral technology standards organization, will host its annual Technical Interchange Meeting (TIM) in Huntsville, Alabama, on September 16, 2024. The event will bring together industry experts, government officials, and technology enthusiasts to exchange ideas, share best practices, and foster collaboration in shaping the future of airborne, sensor, and related systems.

The theme of this year’s meeting is MOSA (Modular Open Systems Approach) in Practice. MOSA is a strategic standardization initiative by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) that requires the thousands of products and systems the services acquire every year to work together more productively.

With a focus on interoperability, modularity, and affordability, the event aims to drive the development and adoption of open standards that enhance the capabilities, efficiency, and effectiveness of military and aerospace systems.

During the event, attendees will learn how MOSA benefits from the FACE® and SOSAâ„ approaches. Panel discussions will focus on topics such as the impact of MOSA on the warfighter, the usage of MOSA Principle Certify Conformance, and how FACE and SOSA open standards are being used in development efforts.

The event speakers include:

  • BG David C. Phillips, Program Executive Officer, Aviation
  • Jacob Glassman, Senior Advisor/Special Assistant, Assistant Secretary of the Navy (ASN RD&A)
  • Government panellists from Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR), Army Program Executive Office (PEO) Aviation and Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) AvMC and C5ISR Center, Air Force Air Combat Command (ACC) and Lifecycle Management Center (AFLCMC), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
  • Plus industry representatives from L3Harris Technologies, Lockheed Martin, RTX Technology & Global Engineering and many others

About The Open Group
The Open Group is a global consortium that enables the achievement of business objectives through technology standards and open source initiatives by fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and mutual respect among our diverse membership of 900+ organizations. Our Membership includes customers, systems and solutions suppliers, tool vendors, integrators, academics, and consultants across multiple industries.

About FACE® Consortium

The FACE® Consortium is a government, academia, and industry partnership formed to define an open avionics environment for all military airborne platform types. It has since grown into an aviation-focused professional group made up of industry suppliers, customers, and users. It provides a vendor-neutral forum for industry, academia, and government to work together to develop and consolidate the open standards, best practices, guidance documents, and business strategy. These objectives promote acquisition of affordable software systems, innovation, rapid integration of portable capabilities across global defense programs, and higher efficiency to deploy capabilities.

About SOSAâ„ Consortium

The Open Group SOSA Consortium enables government and industry to collaboratively develop open standards and best practices to enable, enhance, and accelerate the deployment of affordable, capable, interoperable sensor systems. SOSA is creating open system reference architectures applicable to military and commercial sensor systems and a business model that balances stakeholder interests. The architectures employ modular design and use widely supported, consensus-based, non-proprietary standards for key interfaces.
